Straw Mulching is a three-step application process that promotes optimum germination and erosion control. The first stage is to spread the seed to the designated areas (usually via our hydroseeding process). The second phase is to cover the seed with straw. This is possible via our purpose-built machine (the only one in Victoria). The final stage is to apply an environmentally friendly tackifier.
BWD is the only company that offers the innovative straw mulching method, ensuring a unique, eco-friendly approach to land restoration and management. We pride ourselves on offering a superior, environmentally friendly alternative that eliminates the use of bitumen and harmful chemicals. Our method is a more sustainable solution, providing excellent erosion control, moisture retention, and promoting natural vegetation growth. By using biodegradable materials, we not only enhance the health of the soil but also ensure that our methods are in harmony with the environment, offering long-lasting benefits without the environmental impact of traditional bitumen-based mulching.
Weed Suppression: Straw creates a barrier that inhibits the growth of weeds by blocking sunlight from reaching weed seeds.
Temperature Regulation: It helps maintain a stable temperature for the soil, preventing extreme temperature fluctuations that could harm plants.
Soil Fertility: As the straw decomposes, it enriches the soil with organic matter, improving its structure and nutrient content.
Moisture Retention: The straw helps retain moisture in the soil, which is crucial for seed germination and plant growth, especially in dry conditions.
Erosion Control: The layer of straw prevents soil erosion by shielding the soil from wind and water runoff.
